Bakery's £10m goal after investment deal
12th August 2011
A LANCASHIRE bakery which supplies cakes and biscuits to national retailers and coffee shops, has invested in new premises after winning new orders.
It hopes this will help sales - which have trebled in the last four years - to grow from £6m to £10m.
Burnley-based Cherrytree Bakery has invested £425,000 to buy and fit out two additional units next to its main production facility on Billington Road Industrial Estate.
Founded in 1984, Cherrytree produces several different varieties of cakes, buns, loaves and muffins, which it supplies to high street retailers and supermarket chains such as Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Asda.
The firm, which has 83 staff, also produces supermarket own brand label products and supplies one of the country's largest coffee chains.
Managing director Gary Entwistle said: "The business has grown significantly in the past few years and we continue to secure orders from both existing and new customers.
"The investment we have made to acquire new premises and increase our production capacity ensures we now have the facilities in place to meet this demand.”
The expansion was funded by NatWest’s commercial banking team in Blackburn.
Relationship director Sean O’Malley said: “Cherrytree has established a national customer base due to the quality of its products and the speed in which it can turnaround customer orders.
"This investment will undoubtedly strengthen their production process and help them maintain a competitive edge in the market.”
